Trip to Idaho and a birthday
Back by popular demand-- more hair fun. It's too long to actually style. Maybe when he's bigger and holds still long enough for a haircut.
Love love love these pictures of Kate at my parents house in Idaho. I took the kids for a few days, and it was great. They traveled really well. Kian tolerated his car seat like a pro. Lily was sick for the last 3 days we were there, but it was still a great trip for us. Might as well be sick at Grandma's house as at your own house, right?
Kian loved all the floor space. He would bump into furniture, and we would turn him around until he bumped into something else. It's amazing how well he moves on his back.
The birthday present.
Lily turned 5. She is excited to start school and will have a hard time waiting until August. She decided that she wanted to wear all size 5 clothes, and they were all too big for her. So she wore too big clothes all day. She sounded a bit disappointed when I asked her if she felt older and she said, "I feel the same as when I was four!"Thursday, March 31, 2011
Is It Spring Yet?
Spring is on the way! The RSV count is declining; my daffodils are going to bloom any second; we can register Lily for kindergarten tomorrow; the sun is shining today. Ain't life grand?

9 month stats
Kian had his 9 month check-up last week, and these are the official stats, according to his pediatrician. These are plotted on the graph for a 6-month old, since that is his adjusted age.
Weight 14-2 (15%)
Height 26" (45%)
head 42.3 cm (25%)
I tried to post a video from our digital camera, but I guess it was too large. I'll have to try something else.

9/6
So Kian is officially 9 months old/6 months adjusted. But first, some catch-up pictures. This is our chair in our family room. How many people can your chair hold?
Kian on Sweet Potatoes. Or Sweet Potatoes on Kian.
This was after his MRI. He was a pretty good sport.
Umm. Kate fell asleep at the computer. Again. Does this mean I am a bad mom?
Kian and Chris after watching the big BYU vs San Diego State game. Chris dressed Kian in BYU blue.
And these are our makeshift, spur-of-the-moment pictures of Kian on his 9 month birthday. Hey, every chance we get to celebrate this little guy is a good enough reason for us to make a fuss.

Still here
It's been a while since an update. Not much has been happening around here. Kian's last weight was 13 1/2 pounds, so he's doing great. We started him on solids, and after a slow start is getting use to the idea. So far he's had rice cereal, sweet potatoes, and pears. He's still not to keen on rolling over on his own, but he will if you give his leg a nudge in the right direction. Our current goal is to get him to recognize and play with his own feet.
Kian had a sedated MRI this week, just a scheduled follow-up on his shunt. Our neurosurgeon said his brain looks good and there is nothing there to worry about. When I asked him about the injury from his grade 4 IVH, Dr. Walker said, "I don't see it." So after all the gloomy images from head ultrasounds and CT scans, his brain "looks good." Now, that wasn't an official MRI report, just the neurosurgeon looking at the images, so that verdict might change, but I can't tell you how happy I was to hear that. No cysts, no cavitation, just brain. YAY!
Kate continues to make us laugh everyday. She says some of the funniest things, and uses body language that makes her seem so dramatic. Lily is such a big girl now and has been a great helper and a peacemaker these past few days. They spend a lot of time watching movies and doing PBSkids.org. Come on, spring! We keep track of the RSV situation on Germwatch (just google germwatch utah, it'll get you there. It's through IHC). Hopefully the rate of RSV will start coming down soon. It hasn't peaked yet. Once it comes down, then we can start getting out of the house more. Pictures (and maybe some videos) to come soon!

8 months old
We decided to spike Kian's hair one night before his bath. I finally convinced Chris it would be OK if we evened out Kian's hair on the top, so right after these pictures I trimmed his hair a little bit. You can hardly tell.

Making building out of marshmallows and toothpicks. Fun activity.
Kate being a princess.
Another activity trying to keep the girls entertained: dishsoap bubbles.
Chris says this is what happens to me after being confined to the house for two months.
